Flowchart Maker and Online Diagram Software. Diagrams.net (formerly draw.io) is free online diagram software. You can use it as a flowchart maker, network diagram software, to create UML online, as an ER diagram tool, to design database schema, to build BPMN online, as a circuit diagram maker, and more. Draw.io can import.vsdx, Gliffy™ and Lucidchart™ files. Making cool exploded drawings is a breeze in Fusion 360. In just a few easy steps, you can make 3D assembly diagrams of your projects, and even 3D animations in no time. Fusion 360 is free and it's awesome. I use it for everything I design and fabricate. Toolbars, palettes, and Ribbon panels flash on and off, and soon AutoCAD settles down to display the Ribbon, as configured for the 3D Modeling workspace with a few additional panels. Click the Application button and choose New; then click Drawing. The Select Template dialog box appears.

3d Drawings Easy

  • The joy of drawing by hand. The ease of super-smart 3D modeling software. Your design matters. Make sustainable buildings. Change the world. Customize your 3D workspace. Hundreds of professionally-developed extensions at your fingertips. Tell the whole story.
  • You will get the following 3D Steps Diagram as a result: Related: Creating PowerPoint 3D Arrows. Step 3: Bring out the steps. Carefully select the middle step while keeping the group intact. Under 3D rotation menu go to ‘Distance from the ground' option. Increase the value to 25 pt. The same way increase the value of the top step to 50pt.

Target Audience[edit | edit source]

Someone who has never drawn in a vector graphic, object oriented software package.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

You want to:

  • Draw an organizational chart, an information flow chart, a subsystem diagram, an electrical circuit, a chemical process, a decision tree, a free body diagram, a specific type of diagram that already has a name
  • Make up new symbols for a new field for example Rube Goldberg project documentation symbols
  • Want to put words in boxes and connect them with arrows
  • Capture brainstorming sessions (Mind mapping)

Drawing in a notebook, taking picture with cell phone and then putting this in documentation is useless. Manipulating pixels or dots in photos is a waste of time. The goal is something that looks good small, looks good big, looks good printed. This requires software that saves equations for lines rather than pixels.

You want to:

  • Draw in 2D not 3D
  • Quick drawing, no simulation or animation
  • Draw lines, not edit pixels
  • Communicate scope, icon, logo, big picture, not the detail of graphs and charts

Starting Point[edit | edit source]

  • Google Draw -- requires no software installation .. just get a google ID, go to google drive and create boxes, put text in them and connect with arrows.
Free online drawing tools
  • Inkscape -- is an open source version of adobe illustrator
Has significant learning curve
  1. Very Thorough Beginners' Guide: Playlist that goes through each individual feature and usage.
  2. Beginners' Guide: Similar to the above. Not quite as thorough. Slow paced. Boring
  3. Quick Logo Tutorial, quick tutorial for logo creation. Shows numerous tools being applied in all of 5 minutes
can mix photos and line drawing
produces SVG files that can be uploaded directly to wikicommons
  • Icons specific to a type of Engineering
Standard engineering symbols

Most types of engineering have standard icons. The icons are designed to encourage discussions and communicate information at a high level where participants don't necessarily know all the details. For example the symbol for a transistor hides how it was made, what type and focuses the discussion on how it is connected. A firewall symbol helps encourage discussions of zone security features without discussing how the are implemented. A distillation symbol shows where in a chemical plant distillation occurs without discussing exactly how the distillation unit is designed so the discussion can focus on material flow.

Visio by Microsoft doesn't have a 'free' version, but dominates engineering.
Public SVG libraries exist that can be directly manipulated with svg-edit; is evolving rapidly, is sponsored by google and should enable access to these libraries in the future . in the mean time collections of engineering svg objects exist on the internet and at wikicommons that can be used within inkscape
The Tango Desktoptop Project is trying to standardize all desktop gui icons . not engineering icons.

Use 3D objects to create highlight flowcharts, directional maps and network diagrams and bring them to life.

Edraw 3D objects are predefined and built in the program, tailored for maximum visual impact. You can access them easily and quickly.

Major Types of 3D Objects

Make A Drawing 3d

7 types of 3D objects are offered. Each type contains many kinds of shapes, satisfying various drawing need. New objects are added continually. Just for improving Edraw's feasibility and enhancing your productivity and creativity.

  1. 3D Common Shapes (in General Library -> Common Shapes)
  2. 3D Directional Map Symbols (in Maps Library)
  3. 3D Solid Geometry Symbols (in General Library)
  4. 3D Matrix Diagram Symbols (in Business Diagram Library -> Matrix)
  5. 3D Illustrations of People Image (in Illustration-> People)
  6. Highlight Shapes (in Flowchart and Mind Map Library)

Advantages of 3D Shapes

3D modeling and 3D renderings serve multiple advantages in a variety of fields. In diagramming field, you can benefit from the following perspectives with Edraw.

Drawing

First and foremost, you can use 3D symbols to bring more realism to your documents. For example, instead of representing a house as a simple point, you can symbolize it with a 3D model of a particular style of home. Pro tools le auto tune. In this way, your document can be easier to understand. For instance, with a 3D directional map, even those with weak direction sense can locate a place quickly because it is just like real environment. While a 2D map requires stronger ability of spatial visualization.

Secondly, you can create better visual impact for your diagrams. Use the highlight flowchart shapes to make your flowchart more colorful. Use 3D illustrations of people image to make you mind map more lifelike and more beautiful. Use 3D network diagrams to manage your network just like seeing it in real world.

Last but not least, engage your audience vividly. During presentation, if you keep showing only monotonous texts to audience, they will lose interests soon. One of the best ways to keep them engaged is using infographic materials. This can be achieved by using vivid 3D objects. People are naturally attracted by beautiful things. Presentation with 3D symbols will be more enriched and catchier. Just compare the attractions of the following two groups of shapes.

How to Apply 3D Symbols

Edraw's 3D symbols are embedded right in the program, categorized by usage or diagram type. They are only a few clicks away.

  1. Open the relevant library by clicking the Libraries button and choosing the library you need.
  2. Drag the needed shape to the location you want to place it and then release the mouse.
  3. To connect the added 3D objects with other shapes, use Connector tool on Home menu. Move the cursor to draw connectors. The connection points turn red when being connected.
  4. To add more connection points to a 3D shape, use Connection Point Tool on Symbol menu.
